pesticides in our fruits and veggies • simple home remedy

Part of living consciously includes paying attention to what we are consuming. Unfortunately shopping at large grocery stores means pesticides in the food you're bringing home. If you can't grow your own food or shop at local farmer's markets every week it is important to remember to thoroughly wash your fresh produce.

I spent last weekend at my grandparents house and I realized that their way of washing fruits and veggies is by rinsing them off in the sink. Most people think this is gets rid of the pesticides, but it not nearly enough! Luckily for us there is a very simple home remedy that doesn't take more than 2 minutes to put together.

Most of us have these ingredients at home and they are very affordable:

  • 6 tablespoons of white vinegar
  • 2 cups of water
  • 2 medium organic lemons, halved
  • spray bottle (preferably BPA free plastic or glass)

Clean the spray bottle well with warm water. Add vinegar and water to the bottle. Squeeze in as much juice from the lemon halves as you can. Give the bottle a shake and you're ready to go!

Spray your fresh produce with your veggie wash and then rinse everything off with water while scrubbing your veggies with your fingers. Remember to keep your wash in the fridge so it's ready for future use.
